The president of the Russian-backed breakaway Georgian territory of Abkhazia has welcomed the ruling by top UN judges that Kosovo's 2008 declaration of independence from Serbia was not illegal for his own reasons.

“The decision of the International Court once more confirms the right of Abkhazia and [fellow breakaway Georgian region] South Ossetia to self-rule,” said Sergei Bagapsh.

What the "Court" (and I use that word loosely because it's not a real court but a USA / EU rubberstamp) confirms is that "the law" is whatever you want it to be whenever it suits your purposes, provided you have the means to enforce your will and plans.

Yep, "legal" or "illegal" are abstract definitions which, depending on conditions, can be arbitrarily redefined, circumvented or altered by whoever happens to dictate the law. People who believe that "law" is somehow independent of political machinations are delusional.
