Ach no, not sued, I hate the trend of suing over everything! It's ugly money-grabbing, jumping on the mistakes of others to try to improve your own position in life with no consideration of how being sued will affect the other person. We need more compassion for our fellow citizens, we shouldn't try to self-righteously exploit their errors. The person finding the earplug has suffered no big financial loss that needs to be accounted for. Investigate, perhaps shut down the place if it looks like it could happen again, the council could even issue a fine if necessary, but don't sue.

Maybe suing is a bit extreme in this particular case as nobody was actually injured by it, (luckily, but if a child had eaten it, they could have choked,) but I think he should at least be given a refund for his wasted meal he paid for and that a Health & Safety worker should investigate the place to give them advice and to check if they are meeting regulatory food hygiene and food preparation and care standards that are required by law to serve food to the public in the UK.

The only other option I can think of is to report it to a local Health & Safety department so the place can be investigated and inspected to avoid anything like this happening again to others.

The man brought it to the public attention online with his photograph to make others aware, but that's probably more damaging to the company than suing them or informing a local Health & Safety officer to conduct a private investigation of the place.
