Default Slovaks, i have a question for you

In the near future i want to travel to Slovakia, there are many cities i admire, but i am curious what would you recommend me to visit (In terms of cities, and, you know, places), preferably somewhere where i don't encounter that much amount of people (I don't like people in general, don't take it personal).
Personally, i find Bratislava interesting as it tries to combine both 'modern days' and 'old days', Levoca also seems interesting.

Also, please, don't start trolling in my topic. Cheers

    Hi astralbeing200,

thank you for your interest in visiting Slovakia
    ,

I'm not sure what exactly to recommend visiting... personally, I wouldn't say that Slovakia has too many interesting tourist attractions (although, there certainly are some ). You asked for places where you won't encounter many people - well, Slovak towns, in general, are quite small, even Bratislava, with its half a million inhabitants, isn't overcrowded at all... - I would say that's it's rather the other way around. Many streets are often very quiet and empty there.

I'll give you some links where you can find information on travelling in Slovakia:

http://slovakia.travel/en - official Slovak tourism portal

http://wikitravel.org/en/Slovakia - wikitravel tourist guide, seems to have a lot of useful tips

http://travel.spectator.sme.sk/ - information on Slovak towns and regions

    Some links specifically for Bratislava:

http://www.floowie.com/en/read/Brati...ge/1/zoom/100/ - again, a travel guide to Bratislava

Bratislava might seem like a good option to visit, also because of its proximity to Austria... Vienna is very near, it only takes about 40 minutes or so to get there by car (of course, one can also take a train or a bus). Basically, Bratislava lies right on the Austrian border, so visiting Austria might be a good idea, Hungary isn't very far, either.

By the way, many shops in Bratislava are open also on Sundays (unlike in Austria, where they are closed at this time). Some hypermarkets are open non-stop (24/7) in Bratislava (I think there are currently three of them - they're called Tesco Extra).

Big shopping centres in Bratislava are open 7 days a week, generally between 9-10 am and 9 pm. Links (some websites are in Slovak only):

Well, ok. The point of view...

I think that if you asked any Slovak person about places to go in Slovakia then probably nobody would omit the Tatra Mountains (especially the High Tatras). They seem to be the most well known tourist destination here (well, for Slovaks, at least). People go there for winter sports - like skiing, but one can go there in summer, too - for instance, for hiking.

Bratislava, although being a capital and the largest city, I think is not generally viewed as a (popular) tourist destination for us Slovaks to visit. It may be visited by foreigners for a reason that it's the capital, but personally, I don't think it has a lot to offer (at least, compared to other, larger European capitals). But compared to other Slovak towns, it does rate better, in terms of, e.g. culture events, shopping opportunities, restaurants and the like.

Then there are castles in Slovakia. There are quite many of them - some that come to my mind are the Bojnice castle (in Slovak: Bojnický zámok), or the ruins of the Čachtice castle - this one is associated with a countess that was known for being a serial killer and it is said that she used to bath in her victims's blood to retain youth - her name in Slovak: Alžbeta Bátoriová, in English: Elizabeth Bathory. I used to have a book about her at home. There is a film about her, too.

Then there are some natural attractions, like caves. I visited one on a school trip as a child, I'm not sure how interesting is that, however. Some of the most well-known are in southern Slovakia - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caves_...d_Slovak_Karst . Some are also in Google Street View, e.g.:

    Jasovská jaskyňa

    Gombasecká jaskyňa

    Jaskyňa Domica

    there are more of them...

(by the way, most of Slovakia is available in the Google Street View nowadays, I think I can recommend using it).

There are certainly more attractions than what I've mentioned here... this is only what came to my mind...
