Genetics of Bavarians

I'm an eighth Bavarian myself. Is Bavaria heavily Catholic? My Bavarian ancestors were Lutheran.

Bavaria is a stronghold of Catholicism, but with many exceptions. For example, North Italy is a stronghold of Catholicism but I have some Protestant ancestors from Piedmont (north west Italy).

Okay. Though I don't think Bavarians would have Ligurian ancestry. Ligurians dwelled in modern day North-West Italy and South-East France.

They could have some degree of Ligurian ancestry indeed.

Genetically, all southern Germans look very similar and not much different to western Germans. Bavarians have a small Italian influence but no direct Scandinavian influence.

I could believe they were descended from the Boii but I doubt they have any Ligurian in them. Ligurians lived on the Med. sea!

There is a type of DNA which is common throughout Italy but more common in the south.

Very Bavarian but he could be a South Tyrolean as well (Raethians, Alpine Celts...).
