the fact that they have such pride shows there are reasons for it, and the fact that they have that pride does in fact make a separate identity, and the fact it bothers you it further proves the point that there is a cultural separation and they are maintaining something distinct.

The Italians consider the Italo-Americani as retards themselves! I was in Rome some years back, and in a restaurant some Italo-Americani sat at a table. I don't like to stereotype the Italo-Americani... But they are NOT Italian! They are Americans! who like pizza's and wave with Italian flags because grandpa came off a boat from Sicily!

I've got two friends who're Italian (one is half German/half Italian, the other is, I believe, Sicilian) and they don't refer to themselves as guidos or act like thugs. But, I've seen plenty of Italians who do act like this, but I think that they're basically the Italian version of white trash and whiggers.
