If it was dry cold, one could handle it, but it did not matter how many layers of clothing one did put on – it felt like the wet cold wind went right through to your bone marrow.

Central Australia is like a freezer in winter and like an oven in summer and only about 2 weeks to a month in between seasons. But because the air is so dry, even +40C feels comfortable in the summertime and clothing keeps you warm in winter.

In Wet Tropics the summer is hot and humid, but winters are beaut! Cool nights and beautiful sunny - not too cold, not too hot days. And lots of visiting Victorian holiday makers

A Finn complaining about the Melbourne winter, who'd of thunk!

Although I've heard the same complaints from British/Irish all my life, so not really surprising. I like Melbourne winters, and every season is good there IMO (at least there are actually 4 proper seasons there unlike much of Australia, sometimes in one day). Country Victoria is OK but the freezing winter nights/mornings are hard going, more temperate and comfortable in Melbourne.
