If Asparukh was anything like the the Proto-Turks of the Chandman-Egiin Gol-complex, he was the furthest thing from a Iranian you can find.
Looking at the data it looks obvious the Proto-Turkics represented in physical type the last vestiges of a UP North Eurasian relic type. A funny thing is that in physical type the Proto-Turks shared more similarity to UP Europeans than what contemporary Euros did. They were not really similar to any modern Eurasian population.
Asparukh himself was the son of Kubrat-Chumbulat, an Oghur Turk. Oghurs were the most northern and barbarian of the Turkic tribes.
