    Esfera City Center

Monterrey, Mexico experiences a new wave of urban development. Citelis currently develops Esfera City Center Monterrey which is, at the moment, the most important example of this new boom of developments in south Monterrey by Carretera Nacional. Esfera City Center Monterrey is an extensive mixed-use area that will have an iconic architecture. The development will count with a retail center or shopping mall designed by architect Javier Sordo Madaleno. The development’s most iconic buildings, however, will be the residential area or loft apartments designed by awarded architect Zaha Hadid. Esfera City Center Monterrey will also have office space, a hotel, and movie theaters.

The first phase of the project's planned three phases is not due to be completed until 2018.

    Insignia Tower

Torre Insignia is a new supertall skyscraper proposed for the Mexican city of Monterrey. If built, it will rise to a height of 330 meters.

Developed by GIM and designed by HKS, the scheme is to be the anchor landmark for Del Valle City, a mixed use master plan for the New Leon area.

The extreme height of the scheme is inspired by the famous mountains around Monterrey that dominate its backdrop. The design of the tower tapers to a narrow peak of extruding façade elements, which will be topped with rotating observation levels and a 30-meter-tall mast, something rarely seen in the days of sleek and aerodynamic supertalls. On the corners of the building, the cladding peels away, revealing recessed sky terraces that grow larger as the tower shrinks.

The tower would contain a luxury hotel with 300 rooms, 180 apartments, 18,000 square meters of grade-A office space, plus cultural facilities and retail that would be integrated with the surrounding landscaped area.

If the tower is completed before the Tower at Isla de Marchi, a proposed 335-meter tower in Argentina, Torre Insignia would be the tallest building in Latin America. It is still too early in the planning phases for both projects to accurately predict construction timelines.

    Nicaragua Canal

The Nicaragua Canal, formally the Nicaraguan Canal and Development Project (also referred to as the Nicaragua Grand Canal, or the Nicaragua Interoceanic Grand Canal) is a shipping route under construction through Nicaragua to connect the Caribbean Sea (and therefore the Atlantic Ocean) with the Pacific Ocean. In June 2013, Nicaragua's National Assembly approved a bill to grant a 50-year concession to finance and manage the project to the private Hong Kong Nicaragua Canal Development Investment Company (HKND Group) headed by Wang Jing, a Chinese billionaire. The concession can be extended for another 50 years once the waterway is operational. Construction of the canal, estimated to cost 40 to 50 billion US dollars, began in December 2014, with completion due within five years. However, the Nicaraguan government has since failed to present reliable information about whether or not the project can be financed, thus casting doubt over whether or not it can be completed.

Cost: $40 to 50 billion US dollars
