How many German-American are pure German or more than 50% German blood?

Germans-Americans are the largest ethnic community in America, but i was read that american has a costume to overestimate your german blood unlike the British contribution. It's true? What's your estimation for my thread question.

There's definately more Brits. By the 80s 2/3 of the German American population had more than one ancestry according to the census. The British never stopped coming here, though they've slowed down recently in favor of opting for Australia more these days. I guess we're a little too violent and multicultural for Brits these days huh.

Just less people report Anglo ancestry, for many different reasons.

I think many of the people that call themselves German-Americans are mixed with something else. It depends a lot on religion. Catholic Germans that came to America usually mixed with Irish, Poles, Italians. Protestant Germans usually mixed with Anglos or where I live there are many German/Scando mixes (I would imagine) because there are lots of Scandos that come here.

I think Protestant Germans are maybe less likely to mix with another ethnic group but IDK.

My dad is 50% German, my mom 25%. My dad I believe would call himself German before all else, but it should be mentioned that 1. Our surname is German...and 2. My paternal grandmother was adopted.

My mom I might say slightly moreso identifies with her Danish and her Slavic roots.

I've met an occasional Wisconsinite who was all German as far as they knew...German+Polish is a Very common mix in that state.

Yeah, why?

Unless I am mistaken, they are the top two ethnicities there.
