No, the average southern French does not look Italian, especially not southern Italian, and such types are uncommon. Even the southern French have a lot of Nordic influenced types, Atlantids, etc. that collectively make them not look like a Southern European population.
Although the difference is smaller, they do not even look identical to Iberians. Most southern French pass better in Germany or Britain than in Sicily or Crete, and we greatly overestimate their darkness. Moreover, genetically they are less than half Mediterranean, and are closer to Central Europe than any true southern European population.
