Not that close and Romanians have not mixed with Turks or Caucasus peoples. I don't know for sure why there are so many really dark Romanians, who don't even look European in many cases.

just today i ve had two romanian tourists as customers of me. one ws normal brunette; the other looked very exotic (thought not gypsy) with very curly and black hair.. for the location of romania in other places of europe at same location in central europe you don t find those looks

No, the average southern French does not look Italian, especially not southern Italian, and such types are uncommon. Even the southern French have a lot of Nordic influenced types, Atlantids, etc. that collectively make them not look like a Southern European population.

Although the difference is smaller, they do not even look identical to Iberians. Most southern French pass better in Germany or Britain than in Sicily or Crete, and we greatly overestimate their darkness. Moreover, genetically they are less than half Mediterranean, and are closer to Central Europe than any true southern European population.
