Drop it to 1 meal, and keep at it for a few months and you'll lose tons of weight. I did this once and lost like 65 lbs. A quick and dirty way to lose weight but probably not recommended by most experts.
2 meals is enough for daily nutrition and energy though, which is what I do. I try to eat fish and chicken regularly, then reward myself on the weekends by eating out.

I don't think two meals is enough for most people but I guess it would depend on how big the meals were. People should either eat two big meals or three smaller meals a day.

What is sure is there is not a single academic paper which tells you the "ideal" way to eat. Actually, the most recent paper on Inuits' genetics emphasizes ancestry and ancestral practices because it's in your dna and dna controls your biology. If you're Inuit, stick to a diet close to what your ancestors ate, if you're in the mediterranean, the "mediterranean diet" is probably for you etc...
