Default Do you remember the first time you saw someone exotic?

    Hey guys!

    How are you doing today?

I was wondering if you guys remembered the first time you saw someone obviously foreign.

I don't remember mine but I will never forget the first time my little brother saw a black person.

We were at the restaurant with my parents and my sister. I was around 14 and my brother was around 3-4. Our waitress was a very nice young black woman. When she came to take our order my brother started staring at her with his mouth open. My sister and I noticed and were extremely concerned he would say something inappropriate. It was only when she left that he asked us: "Why was the lady all brown?" (Pourquoi la dame elle est toute marron?)

Very cute and funny but also a bit awkward. I'm pretty sure the waitress noticed but was too polite to show that she did.

    What are your stories?

Nope, because I am one, and plus all my friends are too.

I guess the day I was born.

An exotic person can be anything: black, white, tan, blonde, red-head. Anything that is out of what you commonly see. Unless you grew up in a very multicultural society and neighborhood. Just like spanish catalan above.

I had to have been about five or six when I first saw a Vietnamese person. He was an adult, very patient and I just couldn't stop staring. We were fairly new to Manassas at that time and we were meeting new people.

exotic definition: "originating in or characteristic of a distant foreign country"
-You can't be exotic to yourself although you may meet the definition of exotic for other people.

When I was living in Libya, blond hair and blue eyes were quite rare. The first time I saw such people. The people nicknamed them "The Americans" but they were Polish expats living there, who were friends of my neighbour whose wife was Polish. What is also interesting I thought such people only existed in anime, which was and is still popular in the Arab world more so than American animation.

Staring seems to be a common reaction.

I remember last year when I saw my "first" native American. I had seen plenty in Texas but they weren't the same as this one really looked like Kocuom from Pocahontas.

Of course he wasn't wearing the typical native american attire, just normal clothes, but his features and long black hair were very exotic.

We were going through a toll in Ohio (if I remember well). I got ridiculously excited, asking my girlfriend "is he native american?". She laughed so much and told everyone about it afterwards. I felt a bit embarrassed. It wasn't like I thought he was an attraction or anything. I was just being overly curious.

Haha! How old were you back then? Thanks for sharing!

I have a few blond hair anecdotes. North-African women kept touching my sister's hair and wanted to put henna in them. They would even offer to pay!

My sister's best friend said she got stared at all the time in every east Asian country she ever went to, people sometimes randomly pictures with her or of her. Same for another blonde friend in Japan. She also said she "got to see the top of people's heads" for the first time (she's 5'4 lol)
