Dear sirs and ladies,

I am the proprietor of the site mentioned in this thread.

It has just been updated, from statistics based on a sample of 1.58 billion people to a sample of 4 billion people; and now contains regional surname maps for about 137 countries; and a total of 26.2 million unique surnames (whereby each Latin character is treated seperatly).

Here is an example of the distribution for the Russofied Armenian diaspora surname, Arakelov in the Federal Subjects of The Russian Federation:

The things I will be working on next are:

- sub-region surname maps
- average income by surname in several countries
- Democrat-Republican (and other) affiliation - as well as fertility rate by said affiliation
- Distribution maps and the same as above for forenames

These will be up within the current year.

I'm looking for some feedback on what else to prioritse. If you have a few moments you can vote up and suggest ideas here.

Lastly, of possible interest to anthropologists I have created a series 'onoregions', which are regions defined by naming custom, partially by lexical analysis, though I need to re-asses this, but it's pretty solid. This of course overlaps to some extent with ethnicity. You can view a list of defined regions here. Due to a bug they are currently not visible on the site. But you will be able to see the most common surname in them on pages like this within 1 day.

N.B. If anyone notices Uzbekistan was accidentally included twice. Re-building the stats now and will be updated within 1 day.
