All cultures have worshipped dark entities. Thursatru, which originates from Ancient Scandinavia is a form of 'Nordic Gnosticism', where they believe each human being is their own ginnungagap (historically, its something like the womb-like emptiness that precedes all creation, sort of like "without form and void" in Genesis).

Thurses (referred as giants) are ancient entities with unlimited power. But we have to be worthy of accessing its massive creative power. Or we would destroy everything. Hence why we are in world of form to learn how to handle such power responsibly. And we cannot directly access it until we do, since otherwise we could destroy the world with a single thought.

Personally, I don't really believe in wanting to ascend to a realm of chaos when I die but the grimoire looks interesting otherwise.
