They were hellenized in late 19th century.

    How can Greeks be Hellenized?

Three villages in Himara speak Greek natively and have traditionally not known Albanian. The other four villages spoke Albanian. Most of the toponyms in the area are Greek.

Surnames of Greek Himariotes such as Milios are Albanian and found in Albanians too.

The original 3 Greek villages of Himarra had Greek Corfiote fathers and Lab mothers. Others are Hellenized, for whatever it is worth.

They were bilingual Albanians. Men spoke Greek, women did not. And yes the hellenization of Himara emerged with Corfu contacts.

Why would the villages have Greek names then? And why are there still old women in these villages who still cant speak Albanian?

They were hellenized in 19th century. The old Albanian speakers are dead. Himara is still billingual. Greek speakers use Albanian to contact with Albanians and vice- versa.

    What Greek named villages?
