Interesting to see that this person ("Mishka Yaponchik") could be known known outside East Europe.
I have watched "Once Upon a Time in Odessa" series and I'd say these Jewish guys from Moldavanka are too romantized... Nothing related to reality (I know many old people born and raised there)
Also, my maternal great-grandmother had dated (early 1920s) rogue (she didn't know about his specific background) and he was related to these gangs from "Moldavanka" slums.

Creepy, and very realistic at the same time :/

I like Jora Kryjovnikov's movies.
There are always tons of extremely absurdic and equally extremely realistic characters and situations...

"Golden Calf" (2005)

Many people would say that old soviet version (black and white) was better.
But I see something very charismatic about these series too.

Also, almost all scenes were filmed in my city (Odessa).
