Actually I am not vegetarian, I am vegan. But even before that I was agaisnt bullfights and I am absolutly in my right to be against something that is also financed with my taxes.

Nunca existiu, nem existe, qualquer programa de apoio financeiro à tauromaquia da parte do Estado Central. A Tauromaquia é tutelada pelo Ministério da Cultura, mas é a única actividade cultural que não tem um programa de apoio, ao contrario do Teatro, Cinema, Dança… que, com razão, são financiados pelo Estado. O objectivo desta mentira é tentar denegrir a imagem da tauromaquia acusando-a de consumir recursos económicos num momento em que o país está em crise. Algo que é totalmente falso.

Os únicos apoios que existem são pequenos e irrelevantes apoios pontuais de alguns municípios, integrados nas suas políticas de fomento cultural e económico locais, gerando retorno económico para esses municípios, pois a tauromaquia arrasta multidões e com elas aumenta o consumo e a actividade económica.

A actividade económica da tauromaquia gera muitos milhões de euros de impostos directos e indirectos para o Estado, sendo, na verdade, uma financiadora do Estado.

Do you really believe that? Bullfights in Portugal are financed by subsidies of our municipalities. It was also financed by European subsidies before they ended it. Where do the European subsidies come from? From the European reserve. Where does the European reserve money come from? From each state of the European Union, which includes Portugal and therefore, where does that money come from? From us, Portuguese citizens. Besides that, where are most bullfights aired on the television? In RTP, the state television which also happens to be financed by us citizens.

I think hunting and fishing for sport in our modern societies does not make sence. There are better alternatives.
