Who knows. Some I'm sure actually have it. However, most clearly don't.

It was usually the other way around, many Blacks were held as slaves by Cherokees. Black Slaves even made an attempt to reach Mexico, during the 1842 Slave Revolt in the Cherokee Nation.

Yes that's true: Either way your point remains valid.
But my version is right: The Cherokees did have Black Slaves.
And, Blacks usually didn't have Cherokee Slaves.
It's not a question of maybe this, or maybe that.

    Interesting.
I think a lot of people might have one Indian ancestor from the colonial era. It just washed out. Look how much was lost within 3 generations.
A single native ancestor from 1850 would be undetectable now.

we had the same fairy tale growing up and even right up, in fact, to the point i was the first to take a DNA test just a couple years ago.

there were always stories of a great grandmother who was full blood native from one of the tribes.

turns out 0.1 percent of my DNA is native...lol! oops!

they took it with surprise and then they ignored it like it had never been mentioned.

my family is very polite...good possibility i was adopted. lol.

edit: also in as far as the original question of your topic on. 'why do they think that xxxxx' : i meant to say 'because they simply did not know and it is human nature to fill in empty spots in our understanding with fairy tales.

    which is fine.

Yeah, absolutely possible. I'm not saying I believe every Tom, Dick, and Harry who claims it. But whether it's real or not, I don't think it's new, and I don't think it's in response to leftist propaganda that being a white American is evil.

What part of America do people most often think they have Native American ancestry? The South?
