Since you are half half the possibilities are there, you could end up looking almost completly indigenous , or european or anything in between. depending how amerindian one of your parent was etc. But when someone is like 80% indigenous and 20% european, chances are the person looks very amerindian. These terms how i use them. Strictly speaking if he were to use the original term you cannot be an castizo. Castizo must have higher european component. But you could still look like a castizo ofcourse.

If I am being honest, these posts baffle me. I am half Mexican and half European. I look exactly like you'd expect to me to look - I look like a "castizo". I have friends with similar ancestry and one of them looks even more mestizo than me, the other looks Italian/Spanish, another looks mestizo etc. Is there a selection issue here, where those who are most interested in DNA test results are more likely to be white-passing?

Yes, the relation phenotype / genetics is extremely random.
I have a texan friend from El Paso whose parents are mexicans from Balleza, Chihuahua, he scored around 60% Euro (38% amerindian) and doesn't look even "castizo"... he looks 100% Euro, and with Pan-European look... or well.. may be he doesn't fit perfectly in UK, the Netherlands or Germany, but he does in the whole Mediterranean Basin and almost all the Balkans without no difficulty.

Thanks for sharing! It is fascinating seeing so many 23andme results along with photos and videos. It certainly makes me re-evaluate my priors about my ancestry - I'd estimate that I am 30-35% amerindian now. That said, I think that one variable that is less discussed is origin of Iberian ancestry, level of Sephardic ancestry etc.
