Hmmm … His fusion of Finnish singing, Saami joik, Tuvan/Mongolian throat singing with some Arctic/Inuit breathing and Yakutian sound effects do create quite interesting soundscapes and I’m sure he would be a hit in some New Age festivals, but I’m not sure all this appropriated stuff is honouring anybody’s culture really.

    Disappointing.

LOVI is Mikko Heikinpoika and Vaskilintu, and “Vaskilintu” (Magdalena Mölsä) looks and sounds interesting:

These pieces work imo because they do not venture far from the Finno-Ugric/Saami influenced ‘soundscape’:

R.I.P Finland's highly valued multi area artist: Actor (from comedies to serious roles), Musician (flute), Singer, Writer, Sportsman: national top levels in football & billiard etc. Did a lot .
Marriage ended to divorce, both children died before him (car accident). Felt a lot.

    Died in cancer.

Here's a song called ''Armo'' (= Mercy). Free translation (lyrics) below.

    Mercy

I environ myself with emptiness so I could see
To learn by myself what I feel
    And to know that
    I have to go alone
    To walk without a shadow
Have to leave something behind for the rest to find the ending

    I avoided this moment,
    Evaded it,
    I feared this so much
Now it must come to an end
Now it's the time for it

    (refrain)
    Till the last moment
A lot of good ends with this
    A lot of beautiful
    Which arms are dead
This has to go like this
    'Though I'd like to deny
    Try to sustain
But I know it will go in vein
    To postpone the mercy

Bad omens are filling the silence
It's so painfully present avery moment 'though you turn your head away
Even though you'd close your eyes
The picture still remains and is going nowhere
But it's not coming for you but keeps staring

    This road may crash us
    It can't be continued
    It can't be like this
It must come to an end
    Now is the time

    (refrain)

    Thank you Finnish Swede.

That name/personality was a blast from the past.

Sorry to go on about this ….
    Listening to …. :
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iaZzN4DDQQo&t=1s

Because he is all-over-the-place appropriating other cultures - I can imagine Elders here say: “He doesn’t know who he is, because he has lost/forgotten his own Dreaming”.

    Now this:
I environ myself with emptiness so I could see (yes indeed, very good)
To learn by myself what I feel (exactly)
    And to know that
I have to go alone (yep)
To walk without a shadow (What? Talk about losing your “Dreaming”, which I here interpret as your mythology, your worldview and remembering your functionality within it, in order to experience it irl).

    https://www.gutenberg.org/files/49028/49028-8.txt
Castrén on huomauttanut suomalaisissa runoissa ilmenevän kaksinaisen
käsityksen vainajain olinpaikasta. Toisen mukaan ne viettivät
varjoelämäänsä haudoissaan, toisen mukaan ne kaikki kokoontuivat
määrättyyn maanalaiseen paikkaan, jota nimitettiin Tuonelaksi eli
    Manalaksi.

Ihmiselle
itselleenkin _varjohaltia_ ennakolta ilmoitti esim. huonosta vuoden
tulosta.
kotolaiset saattoivat kuulla veräjän avautuvan, porstuaan astuttavan
ja ovenripaan tartuttavan, vaikka tulija oli vielä näkymättömissä.

    Harvinainen kertosana _saattaja_ muistuttaa skandinaavilaista
_fylgja_ (vrt. ruots. _följa_ 'saattaa'). Norjassa oli tapana vieraan
lähdettyä vielä kerran avata ovi, että hänen varjohaltiansa pääsisi
    mukaan.

    Vielä liittyy haltiaan kertosana _onni_:

    A. Ihminen haltiaton --
    piä luontosi luonasi,
    haltiasi harteillasi,
    onnesi [olallasi]!
It is no use copying other people’s culture or their ancient music styles even though there is some Arctic overlap, as they do not give one the sense of one’s essence or soul nor therefore content nor context to one’s musical expression – but remembering the Shadow will. Walking with your Shadow.

Then again, perhaps I misunderstood the lyrics … (?)

As much as I do love and appreciate Tuvan/Mongolian throat singing & think this is soooo funny:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kmAbrxrp4Q

One just cannot sing/chant Kalevala-like poetry: “Isani luonto – emani luonto …. avukseni, armokseni, voimakseni, turvakseni” etc. using Tuvian sound/singing. His own “Luonto-Shadowhaltia” is never going to be raised like that …. copying others …
