That seems strange to me considering that the Japanese are pretty aware of the importance of good genes. It's only Western dummies that largely ignore this. Or so I thought.

Western men used to have wigs and wear rouge. I do think Japs like to be prissy, though. It's hard to know how much is genetic and how much is environmental. I usually always lean toward genetics but I do think economics is at work here with today's youth.

I dunno that the West is that extreme but certainly norms have changed a lot. Very few people under 24 can talk to someone on the phone for more than 5 minutes without having a panic attack.

Both girls and guys would rather text whole conversations rather than talk. I have friends who will think you are absolutely rude if you would rather talk on the phone than text. I get all the time "what you can't/don't want to text?" and I'm the bad one for not wanting to text for 20 minutes....especially for women this is an extreme problem.

The last girl I was seeing I stopped seeing because she couldn't talk on the phone and I cannot stand the arbitrary nature of an entire communication with a girl solely through texts I want to be able to talk to her.

Well I hate both the phone and texts, but I understand your particular disdain for texts. The problem is that the other person can carry the conversation on at their own leisure - not responding if they don't feel like it, or just cutting it off altogether.
