Low fertility rate is a mirror on this society as it proves there's no point to reproduce as this way of life has no other meaning than little to no achievement which leads to nowhere only mental breakdown.

Overpopulation is an issue not because there is too many people but rather not enough resources to take care of the people, especially not enough to take care of the entire population. Over a long period of time we won't even have the resources to take care of the people living in first world countries, there won't be enough jobs so unemployment rates will go up, more people will be in poverty, and places high in poverty will have higher crime rates.

Here's a list of consequences from having too many people.

1. Biodiversity collapse (currently in the middle of a mass extinction).
2. Increased carbon output (ocean acidification).
3. General pollution (we all know about China and India as an example).
4. Loss of freedom (the more people there are, the more laws you need. The more laws you have, the less freedom you have).

Problem is that western world is playing a father figure to the developing world, giving free aid to countries that have only developed because of said reasons which have led to a artificial population and economic growth. Ending most of our foreign aid would ironically be better for the region in both the short and long run, their higher fecundity would balance out with their higher mortality and their population would be stable.
