...Even if a man lives well, he dies and another one comes into existence. Let the one who comes later upon seeing this inscription remember the one who had made it. And the name is Omurtag, Kanasubigi.

It should be clearly emphasized here that the Bulgarian language today actually means an archaic ancient version of the Serbian language, as Macmichael himself said at the beginning of the 19th century. The original Bulgarians are a Tatar tribe, which is probably not disputable, which ruled the Serbian population of that area for a short period. In order for the language of today's Bulgarians to be called Bulgarian, it would have to have at least 30% of Tatar words, since there is no such thing, we cannot talk about the old original Bulgarian as the language of today's Bulgarian nation. among Bulgarians, the so-called "Old Slavic language" is only most often mentioned in the literature, but the alleged "Old Slavic" and "Old Slavic language" are only a construction of official science.
interestingly in Romania the Bulgarians were called Serbs until maybe mid-20th century - now the Bulgarians in Romania are fully assimilated and the Romanians descending from Bulgarians don't even know it anymore, but the extent of the places (villages etc) called Sîrbi, Sîrghi, Sîrbului etc shows the extent of Bulgarian presence in Wallachia and Moldova's territory. all those named Sîrbu probably descend from a Bulgarian as well. they were known for growing and selling vegetables.

this article says the Bulgarians said they were Serbians to avoid being sent back to Bulgaria, as Turks had put a ban on Bulgarians' move to Wallachia, to stop Bulgaria's depopulation:

De ce bulgarii grădinări din România sunt numiți ”sârbi”?
