Yeah, we do call it the Pond. I don't claim to be an authority on the subject and I'm just going off impressions really. The English language is obv. a big factor and it's true that we are less socialist and more 'pragmatic' than France and Germany but, socially, I think we are more like the reserved Germans.

The Anglosphere. I think we'll be speaking in American accents in the not too distant future, not even exaggerating.

It's true, I've never looked up the reason though. How is it across the pond?

Definitely the New World, but I'd say there's an order.

I saw a video news report a few years ago about a survey and questionnaire that was asked to British people about which unions they felt was the most and least important to them.

In the survey, Brits responded with ranking the British Commonwealth Nations, the British Overseas Territories, the powerful G8 nations alliance, NATO, and the UN, as being the most important unions to them.

The European Union ranked as the least important union to Brits in the survey.

Most Brits will watch American or Australian movies and music and soap operas and news channels, than watching movies or listening to songs in another language.

    The Anglosphere flag.

I would say that's the big difference. Americans are loud and very extroverted.

It's great bro. No crime or unrest or anything.
And that would be funny. I like to think the rest of the world considers American accents to be cool.

Could argue Scots feel closer to other Europeans than to north Americans nowadays. Depends who you ask.

I don't like to say it, but the new world, it's a no brainer imo. Australia more than USA.

This old country man is funny and humorous;- 'We have the same system of imperial measurements as the US... we don't use metric measurements like continental Europeans!' 'We're not Europeans!' 'All these foreign people are trying to learn English so they get in with us.... but you don't see us wanting to learn foreign languages to get in with them!' 'We like hamburgers and steaks.... not frogs legs and snails.' 'We're not foreign!' 'In America they measure things in pounds and ounces and miles like us... not in kilos or kilometres.'

'We'd be better-off leaving the EU and joining the US.'

The US uses a similar system of measurements to us, like clothes sizes and shoe sizes, for example. Continental European measurements for shoes are totally different. There was a lot of upset in the UK several years ago in a news report I saw showing market stall owners being forced by the EU law to change their system of measurements of their fruit and vegetables to kilos. The market-stall owners complained that their customers were confused what kilos meant and people preferred to use the imperial system of measurements.

I like the way this American puts England in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and closer to the US on the map at 2:00 in the video below when he says the English like to think they're closer to America than to continental Europe and the EU! (True!)

I wonder where that came from? Religion or Spanish/Italian influence?
