The overwhelming majority of Mankind's greatest geniuses believed in God or some sort of cosmic law/order. They were interested, even obsessed, in trying to understand the mistery of life/existence and its laws, most sciences and fields of human knowledge are just a consequence of that process, physics, mathematics, philosophy, theology etc etc. Being agnostic is often confused with being a atheist but they are nothing alike. Agnosticism is indeed correlated with critical thinking and intelligence. However, Atheism is a confession of arrogance, lower intelligence and materialist brainwashing.
It is also a profound contradiction, the fanatical denial of something they don't know, is, by definition, a religious belief.
Atheists are intrinsically stupid and so are the people who buy their anti-scientific brainwashing.

Agreed. Irrational beliefs often influence the irrational actions we take, with superstition being a proper subset of broader irrationality.
'Rationality' can mean a variety of things, one of the definitions deals with adaptability as you suggest, optimizing your environment, so to speak. There are indeed definitions of 'rationality' that go beyond adaptability and optimizing one's environment. For instance, some definitions emphasize adherence to logical principles, regardless of practical outcomes. Also, "rationality" is often misunderstood imo. It's not about being cold or emotionless, it's about making the best possible decision using the tools available- logic, evidence and sometimes even instinct.

That is because most lived before Darwin and his theory of evolution and Einstein's and Spinoza's god are literally just nature or the universe, their pantheism was sexed up atheism.
pssst, hey brother did you know Newton was a Jesus freak ? oh, that is right, he lived before Darwin.

Spinoza believed that the whole universe is the expression of a single eternal, infinite substance. This isn't exactly like the personal Christian God, but it sure as hell isn't an atheistic conception, and it does approach some unorthodox Christian conceptions. Einstein was an Spinozist so the same applies to him.

Religiosity is related to the instinct of overinfering intents behind natural phenomena. According to this theory, the factors that increase IQ also tend to suppress human instincts. https://www.researchgate.net/publica...-_now_2020_rev
