An earth-shattering development occurred in Chisinau last month. The development being the official death of Moldovenism. The President of Moldova declared to the US ambassador "I am Romanian and we speak the Romanian language" effectively putting to grave the Soviet Moldovenist disease. How long until the same happens in FYROM?

Don't think so ... the opinion of an outgoing president with limited power (Moldova is still a parliamentary republic) and a weak personality, he's the bleakest president in a line of uninspiring moldovan leaders, means absolutely nothing.

Moldovenism actually might experience a resurgence.

His native language is not russian. I'm pretty sure of this. He's reading a text (which could've and probably has been written by someone else), that is different from speaking spontaneously ... as to his lack of accent (not perfect by the way and neither is his understanding of how russian language works - v sosedne instead of v sosednem gosudarstve) can be explained by the fact that he was born in the USSR and lived more than half of his life in it.

But what would you say is the most common trend pro-Russian orientation or pro-Romanian? I've met so many Moldavians last year in St. Petersburg that i start to think that they are rather looking towards Russia.
