The right of the Macedonians in Bulgaria for self-determination is indisputable
EFA participates in the annual Jane Sandanski commemoration in Pirin Macedonia
EFA Vice President Ana Miranda Paz (BNG) represented EFA to the commemoration of the Macedonian revolutionary Jane Sandanski, held on Sunday in Melnik, Pirin Macedonia, Bulgaria, after the invitation of OMO Ilinden Pirin.
Speaking in front of several hundreds of Macedonians from Bulgaria and beyond, she highlighted that the attitude of the Bulgarian state towards its Macedonian minority must finally change and that the EU cannot close its eyes anymore to this appalling situation.
"We all hoped in 2007, when Bulgaria became an EU member, that it would comply with European and international legal framework on the respect of the rights of minorities. Unfortunately, we were wrong." she added.
Bulgaria refuses to acknowledge the existence of a distinct Macedonian identity and has modified the laws concerning the registration of political parties so that OMO Ilinden Pirin will not have the right to participate in the elections.
Another EFA member, EFA Rainbow/Vinozhito addressed the event that is held annual in memory of Jane Sandanski, one of the leading figures of the Macedonian independence struggle in the beginning of the 20th century.
