Martian colony may be considered a tutorial before colonizing other regions of universe. People must gain experience on colonizing something less distant, before they'll try to fight for the safety of humans.

We have 5 Billions of years left before it starts to expand. Literally or not, we will be long gone by then. The sun is like the least of the concerns to colonize space.

As for Mars, it's gonna require thousands of years before it really becomes habitable, in a decent way (not like rats)

If I had been asked this question 40-50 years ago, the answer would have been a definite YES ! Now, I would be a burden and a liability to the expedition. It would have been the greatest adventure of a lifetime. I was, alas, born too long ago.

Potatoes are great, but to establish a Czech colony will be also necessery to plant there barley and hop to produce beer, wheat and rye for a genuine Czech bread, and to plant forests where will be possible to pick mushrooms
