Grandpa, Great Grandpa, Grandpa's brother, other Great Grandpa..were all in WW2

Grandpa I believe manned a tank and was in occupied Korea in WW2. His brother was the flight engineer in a B-17 and did like 360 missions or something like that. His plane is apparently in the Smithsonian. He was shot down like twice, once he was a prisoner of the Nazis, but would later say that he liked it because 'it was the only time he got steak during the war'.

My Great Grandpa, meanwhile, was in New Guinea and had two purple hearts as well as a bronze star, which is pretty incredible.

Lastly, my other Great Grandpa, was in the Marines, and was not only in WW2 but also the Korean War. He made the military his career. By the time he retired he was a Captain I think.

I'm thankful they fought the Axis Powers, mostly because of the Nazis' treatment of LGBTs. They basically fought for my right to exist which ever way you want to spin it..lots of Nationalists say they fought for nothing and that the world would be better if the Nazis won but I am an interesting case. I'm glad they lost.

My Grandfather was part of the REME (Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers), and out in Egypt and Palestine in 45/46 afaik. I think he was going to be deployed in 44/45 in Europe but suffered an injury during training. Probably quite fortunate.
