Same in Europe.
In developed societies the great majority of people belong to middle-classes but i believe there's higher income disparities in USA than in most European countries (more poor and more rich people)
True higher classes still are significantly of aristocratic ancestry in Europe but of course not like in the past. I guess in the USA the local aristocracy was of Anglo-colonial background (traditional WASPS).Wealth does not always afford a higher class, compared to mannerism, education, social conduct, etc.
