Rugby is a minoritary sport, only practiced in a few countries.
Football is global. Even Martians play it.

Brazil is also an eminence in contact sports, plus voleyball, futsal, basketball... Also it has some F1 champions (Ayrton Senna etc).

Nobody in my country plays or watches rugby for some reason. Even NFL is more popular here, many towns have american football teams (sometimes even smaller towns), but literally nobody plays rugby. On the other hand handball is quite popular here, unlike in anglophone countries.

I don't think it's very interesting, the answer per capita is obviously New Zealand, and Brazil obviously has a greater overall 'contribution'. But contribution is a weird word to use over success. New Zealand has 53 Olympic Gold Medals vs Brazil's 37.

Brazil is home to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. That's a major contribution. That alone gives Brazil the 'win.' It's a sport. It's self-defense. It's many things.

in these countries, people coming to professional sports may have different motivations. For many Brazilians, this is a way to make money, while in New Zealand, many may have a different goal.
