I like metal + folk mixes. I enjoy all the more that there was a study underlining the subtly veiled racism exuding from this particular musical genre.

A new study from Leeds Beckett University has revealed how the metal music subgenre of folk metal is not only a fantasy space for young, white European men but also an important example of how heavy metal can be seen to normalise masculinity and ‘whiteness’ and perpetuate sexism and racism.

I appreciate the music in sentiment, but it's not really music that is consistently good to the point where I'd put it on just to rock out and relax. It's more like there are a few songs that are really breakout songs like "Wind" and "Der Graue Koenig" by Forseti, but rarely is an entire album awesome from start to finish.





Take Death in June for example, their music is good for its experimental artistic value. There aren't many bands flirting with National Socialist and fascist themes, and then mixing them with popular rock music, but again, DiJ is hardly something I would just put on and then leave on for a party or an evening of drinking and rocking out.

I appreciate the songs "Flieger" and "Gorilla Tactics."





I feel the same about Sol Invictus. I appreciate his allusions to history and mythology, but as a whole, his music is sub-par in my opinion.

Then there is Triarii whose music I really do appreciate in every way though it's only when you're in a bombastic, militaristic mood:



I also like Ordo Rosarius Equilibro even though their name is supposed to be "The Order of the Rose and Balance" in Latin, but it's grammatically wrong. It should be "Ordo Rosae et Equilibrii." That makes me angry. If you're going to give your band a Latin name, GET THE LATIN RIGHT! It's not that hard to check a declension table.
