The big majority don't find that offensive...but amusing. Some even say that Borat was like a big advertisement for Kazakhstan

Altough the Kazakhstan scenes were actually filmed in Romania...or so i read.

Sasha Baron Cohen really is a genius. I didn't think it at first when I saw it, I was in middle school so thats not exactly surprising
I agree with the author, Borat is above all else a funny critique of the US and Americans that does have some real insights into our world view.

That being said, he sacrificed that country's dignity in order to do so. They are the martyr.

yes, it was filmed in a gypsy village which is weird cose they don't even know what a gypsy is...

I have met a Kazak once in my life, actually it was an ethnic russian but from kazakstan.
When I heard he was from kazakstan I had the stupid reflex to make a joke about borat. He just said:
"Borat is a stupid american piece of shit!"
Everybody laught at the situation and at his reaction but the subject was sensitive and we changed the subject.

So yeah I think some people took the movie in a very offensive way.

That's one variant. However, its still possible that he wasn't offended, but is tired of it. I can't even imagine how often people must bring up Borat upon hearing he is from Kazakhstan, nor can I imagine how annoying that must be.
