The smarter ones who try to rationalize and intellectualize their (desire to) belief are just deeply jealous of those who are stupid (and happy).

Certain religious groups are smarter (or maybe educated might work) than others.
Episcopalians, Presbyterians, Universalists are above average but they turned more liberal and progressive.
Atheists and agnostics tend to be above many Christian groups.

I would argue environment and genetics/race also plays a role.
Some Christians are very white, others accept the masses.

The Christian faith is about much more than just this short, temporary physical life and contemporary world and society -- it looks far forward to the future, to eternity. What really matters is where you will spend eternity, not how prosperous you will be only during the next 70 years or less.
