Although not every conspiracy theory is correct, criminal conspiracies can and do exist. There are specific U.S. state and federal laws against them, so the legislators that originally wrote the legislation acknowledged that they can be brought into being.

Certainly, vote fraud is easy with electronic voting machines. All you have to do is add some code to the computer program that controls them. Unless someone audits the code, vote rigging can never be proven, only suspected.

Voting machines don't remain under the control of the same people indefinitely. When another party comes into power, they'll be able to rig the machines their way.

In any case, the real value of this story is show how easy it is to accomplish vote fraud, and that it may already have occurred.

U.S. elections are all a swindle in the end because you're just exchanging one set of rats for another. It's like the slogan of one of the Aliens vs. Predator movies:

WHOEVER WINS, WE LOSE.

Too bad there's no such thing as a tribune of the people in the U.S., as there was in old Rome, to vield the power of the veto and to defend the people from the power of the oligarchs. At best, and cynically, I can hope that the bunco squad will come along and clean them all out of Washington.

Sam Laughinghouse of New Bern said he pushed the button to vote Republican in all races, but the voting machine screen displayed a ballot with all Democrats checked. He cleared the screen and tried again with the same result, he said. Then he asked for and received help from election staff.

“They pushed it twice and the same thing happened,” Laughinghouse said. “That was four times in a row. The fifth time they pushed it and the Republicans came up and I voted.”

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has overturned Arizona’s requirement that people show proof of citizenship to register to vote.

The split decision by a three-judge panel determined that the requirement to show proof of citizenship — passed by voters in 2004 — is not consistent with the National Voter Registration Act.
