A carnival always includes music, dancing, costumes and parades.
The world “carnival” derives from the Latin “carnelevare” meaning “to take out the meat.”

In Ancient Greece and Italy, long before the emergence of Christianity, people whom we call pagans today had wild celebrations centered around the winter and spring solstices, and spring and fall equinoxes, celebrations that the people did not want to give up, even after they became Christians.
