Scots and Canada

From what I've read online,Scotland only sent a few hundred thousands of immigrants to the US, while most Scottish immigrants chose Canada. This mass migrations of the Scots started with the agricultural revolution and the cleareances in both the Highlands and Lowlands.Considering lower class Scots were screwed over by Scottish and English elites, how come they chose to emigrate for the most part to British dominion, especially Canada, where they are a large proportion of the population? Is it because the passage by ship to Halifax was slightly cheaper(for being somewhat more easterly) and Scots are famously stingy?

I think that is mostly colonial and you wont find many pure Scottish-Americans.

Dont forget many white canadians are part French-Canadian or English

True, I don't expect Canadians to be pure breeds either. But, I read that since the early 19th century most Scots emigrated to Canada and only comparatively smaller numbers to the US, Australia, New Zeeland or South Africa. Most Irish went to the US and large numbers also to those other countries.

As if the elites anywhere else - like the mostly Anglo elites of the US - would have been any better than the notionally loyalist elites of British colonies. Then again, modern Scots seem to think that Germany and France will take better care of them than London... But anyway, the Scots typically made a much smaller immigrant contribution to British colonies than the English (first) and Irish (second).

Lower class English were also screwed over by their own elites, but like the Scots, I'm sure they were more keen to resettle in British and former British colonies than other parts of the world. It must have been easier logistically, and the promises of opportunity were good.

Canada has more Scots than Irish or Germans, unlike the USA.

Actually, Scots-Irish is a huge group in USA, i dont know why but they called themselves scots-irish

They were called that by other British-American settlers. They are from Northern Ireland, but of Scottish descent.

Those are unofficial estimates. The census reported far less. Well, the census has greatly underestimated English ancestry too, so maybe those estimates are better.

Its on the same link you posted here, wikipedia. And you can find it in every websites about largest groups in usa according to census. And according to canadian census, there are just 4kk scotts canadians, btw.

The lower numbers are from the US census and self-reported, while the big ones are unofficial estimates.
