From our great king, Dinis. Not only one of the greatest Portuguese kings of our history (We have to say that he was even indirectly behind the Age of Exploration), but also a man of culture and who composed some songs. Surely I would like to meet our great king Dinis, the Portuguese Barbarossa.

I think his musical style was not exclusive Fado.....

This is not just Fado...... But you can feel the "Portuguesidade" in his songs...... All the feelings of suffering, pain, missing, nostalgy, lost injustice is reflected in all Jose Afonso songs IMO---
Very beautiful songs. The singer has great voice.

Not a lot of regional music in Portugal btw.
I wanted to exclude Fado because it is the most common and best known ethnic musical tradition in Portugal. People tend to forget we have a lot of different folk music besides Fado. I have to desagree with you because I do find that we have a lot of variety of folk music here in Portugal.

Also from Ribatejo an traditional portuguese intrument that few people know about:

Bro, that's somewhat close from Cardigos, but it's Ribatejo. Cardigos belongs to Beira Baixa. No one there uses those uber typical Ribatexas clothes.

Try saying to this old man that Fandango is not from Ribatejo and he might kill you

Good examples Endovélico Once again, I hope you did not take it as if I do not like Fado, because that is not the case. I just happen to believe that we have a very rich cultural music history, with many unknown artists, dances, songs and oral traditions. My intention with this thread was to show our other side of traditional music besides Fado to other TA member and portuguese members who might not be so familiar with this other styles.
