I don't want to have inner German. Despise them. Don't look German and I wouldn't fit there. I feel nothing listening to that. American culture is absolutely nothing like Germany's.
I do believe my great grandfather belonged to a German-American organization. Heaven knows why.

Really? I do not think you have explored your inner German enough and there's lots of good there. Do you feel anything when you listen to German Folk Music or is it all MTV type music now?

As an American of German (and Bavarian, no less) descent, I feel nothing but embarrassment when listening to that song. That was awful.

Assimilation brah. German culture faded quickly. Italians and the Irish were two of the groups who maintained a distinctive identity before full assimilation. They were more reluctant, too cultured, too proud.. too different to subscribe to the wasp way as easily as the Germans did. Still don't completely. The culture lasted longer and had a more visible impact on popular culture, so more representation from Hollywood. Hollywood mostly represents ethnic groups in negative ways anyway, so you shouldn't envy the representation of other groups that much.

I guess German Americans are basically just Americans, they are part of the fabric.

Italian Americans brought a completely different take on 'americana', concentrating in New York and North East US. Hollywood has a strange obsession with mafia stuff anyway.

Ferris Bueller's day off featured a German parade, but that is it, German Americans are just as American as apple pie
