City of Omsk – Don’t Try To Leave It

    Source: http://www.slavorum.org/city-of-omsk...y-to-leave-it/

The legendary city that became a meme

Omsk, Russia – Today the legendary meme city of internet, in reality a city located in the south-western part of Western Siberia is actually a location to avoid as far as the local residents say or joke about. Omsk suffers from a trend of young people rapidly leaving it for larger major cities like Moscow, reasons are many and you will see just some of them below. Young Russians in Omsk have a hard time, their wages and living cost are not in good standing if you would compare them to other Russian cities. This alone still isn’t the sole factor of their wish to leave it, there is a lot of other things from Public transport to road conditions that make people want to escape to shiny Moscow.

Back in 2009 a “Omsk bird” was born, it was a meme (the winged doom) and the phrase that comes with it “Do not try to leave Omsk!”. It was the effort of local authorities to force young people to stay and live in Omsk, but the young ones created this meme to describe how they feel being trapped there.

In late 2013, “ISS Art Media” studio presented to the public a documentary film “Do not try to leave Omsk!” addressing social issue and convincing young people not to move to Moscow in search of a better life. Instead, people should stay and try to make their city a better and more interesting place to live.

Don’t try to leave Omsk Sign (Russian part says No Exit)

Well, it's possible to collect a set of such pictures in about any city of RF, if you look for such subjects or just live there long enough.

This materials above mainly is a disinformation.

Russia have an economy at the size of Spain's, but its expenditures is sufficiently higher and wider overall.
This is why russian cities look more unpresentable than others, having poorly developed infrastructure.
It is due to the lower budgets for its maintenance.

In comparison to Spain, there is a sufficiently wider territory from Kaliningrad in Europe to Kamchatka in Far East.

Also there is a necessity of funding more on wide variety of activities from extended military spending to expensive space programs.

One should take in account also, that majority of cities had built in Soviet Union era.

No one cared about appeal of urban landscapes at this time.
In order to reduce spendings, all cities across USSR was built in one similar pattern.
It is hard to differentiate them one from another for this reason.

But in capitalist countries at this time there was a completely different approach to it.
People here cared more about market capabilities.
Because a unique urban landscape attracts more business activities in general.
This is why all cities across North America have a unique style in architecture.

LAst time i checked Russia had economy 3 times larger than Spain.
Russian towns are fine, you will find many "unpleasant" places anywhere if you want. IF you were not lacking travel experience across Europe you would know that. Problem is photoes from Western Europe usually have best available views, while russian one worst, because nobody interested in best. People just want to prove their stereotype about trash poor Russia. So called liberal bloggers are usually first in the line to do that. Throwing shit at someone is easiest work and highly demanded if Russia is targeted.

Russia is huge..it can't be compared to any micro European state. there are a lot of nice looking paces in Russia but u can't keep the whole territory looking as clean as Netherlands or Switzerland, for example. there are much more complex problems to solve in a country of this size.

Of course the set in the original post is highly biased while most of Omsk isn't so bad. But in all sanity we cannot equal Russian towns with Western Europe, unfortunately. I've never been in Europe but there's no need for it either when we have this:

    https://www.google.ru/maps/@51.92002...7i13312!8i6656

This is what a regular Dutch village looks like. It's paved and beautified a bit better than the central street of Krasnodar which is the capital of one of the most prosperous regions of RF. Should I say that the rest of Krasnodar's streets look far from it, let alone region's villages. And then there's Amsterdam...
