Christian Syrians, and to a lesser degree Lebanese, have readily passed as whites in the U.S.

I don't think any American would call Tick Tayback or Kathy Najimy anything other than white. Even more "ethnic" looking people like Danny Thomas and Jamie Farr.

I think a lot of it stemmed from being Christian, being associated with eastern European "ethnics" more than "people of color," and being very willing to outwardly assimilate - for instance, adopting Anglicized names. That has nothing to do with phenotype, but "white" also involves perception.

I did not know Tayback was fully syrian, Jamie Farr looks like a textbook armenoid tho.

I don't believe she is Armenian, otherwise she would have an Armenian last name which Saba is definitely not Armenian family name but Syriac.

No one really is white imo, most people are just classified as white if European or pass as white despite being latino/west Asian/ or mixed. I mean in reality it's based off of skin tone and the perceptions and it is a social construct. Most people just go off of an ethnic identity
