Agree on Dominicans, they are kinda set up for tourists. From Airport employees, taxi drivers, resort employees are very nice. You need a trustworthy Domincan if you want to browse various barrios. Ex pats from N. America and Europe who live there are targeted for violent home invasions though.

Yes, i believe that's a general rule for most of Latin America. In general the people are very easy going, talkative and extrovert and pass you that welcome feeling but one has to be careful when it comes to stay there for long periods and know well the places to go and not to go. They're countries of extremes so...

It has been pretty consistent people here mentioning Paris as one of the least hospitable. I've been there many times since i was a little boy and it always has been like that but getting worse as time passes, now it reached a point i told to myself i'm going back there anymore unless i have too for professional purposes. I have to say i had mostly good/very good experiences in small cities/rural France, given you speak the language people can be very friendly indeed...and they also loathe Parisians.

St, Thomas, USVI, has the lowest prices on jewelry in the western hemisphere. I'd hardly call that robbing the tourists.
Sint Maarten, Netherlands Antilles, is where you'll really get soaked. Prices of luxury items run about thrice those on St. Thomas.

Agreed. I find there to be a huge difference between Parisians, who are definitely among the most cold and unfriendly people ever, and small-town French people (especially in the south of the country), who can be surprisingly talkative and open.

You misunderstood me, i meant literally robb tourists, the hotels staff have schemes to steal the rooms and belongings of the guests while they're out, among other stuff that the folks who go there on cruise trips don't become aware of but i stayed for 3 weeks.

Also 4 dollars for a bottle of mineral water in the supermartket ?! Seriously.

i am surprised how many people named Paris in here...i was left with a good impression. people were very polite and educated. i love that city. almost everywhere i've been, and i traveled a lot, i felt good...i can't think of any bad experience. the only weird place i visited was Tajikistan. people were just staring at me like they've seen me naked or something. getting any information was really difficult..people don't want to talk to foreigners at all..they act like they are scared of something...but it was a good experience anyway..the food was amazing!

Paris syndrome (French: Syndrome de Paris) is a transient psychological disorder exhibited by some individuals when visiting or vacationing to Paris, as a result of extreme shock resulting from their finding out that Paris is not what they had expected it to be.
