What is worse, the touristic area, Fatih, is the most religious district in Istanbul. On top of that, it has become a Syrian, Iraqi and Afghan enclave (since residents were more islamic and more accepting to these people). They opened up shops with Arabic signs for Arab tourists. So basically, Fatih district does feel like Iraq. I've been there few months ago (in normal circumstances i have no business there, no ordinary Turk has any business there, it has become a Syrian ghetto). There are more Arabic signs than Turkish signs, shop owner are Arabs and people on streets are mostly Arab tourists. A Turk can't even ask for directions there.
