Default Why is it so bad that Spanish is becoming more common in the USA?

Personally I don't see a problem with immigrants coming to the USA and choosing Spanish over English. People shouldn't be forced to speak the language the others want them to speak. The USA is a nation of immigrants so it's only natural to see many languages being spoken and not only the language of the entrenched WASP elite. I suppose it would be a different story were it the Spaniards coming from Spain but even then I highly doubt it that it'd be a different story given the WASPs' attitude towards Southern Europeans.

I don't find anything wrong with the Spanish language or any other language for that matter.

I do have a problem with immigrants coming to America and not learning English.
English is the language that the US Constitution was written in and I believe as many Americans do that it is the language of America.
Most immigrants to America learn English except for the large numbers of illegals pouring in from Mexico!
Why should America change its cultural icons like English, apple pie and birthday cakes to Mexican Spanish, menudo and pinatas?

The Constitution was written in English because the founders were English. If the founders were Italian then the Constitution would've been written in Italian instead. Your point is moot.

That's often because the immigrants are forced to learn English by the entrenched WASP elite.

Who said they were going to? Cultures amalgamate, they never replace one other unless there is a concerted effort to do so.

Why SHOULDN'T they learn English, given the opportunity though? Resistance is simply stupid. Their job opportunities are going to be dwarfed (although they do sometimes hire their own kind, and serve their own kind, exclusively, as it happens), their international prospects are going to be diminished, and their overall knowledge of linguistics, language, and culture is going to be shot by all practicality.

That being said, I have no problem with Spanish. It's my least favorite language, but I look down on Americans who complain about having to learn a second language, when people in Ireland and other parts of Europe have learned English, Gaelic, French, Spanish, Russian, and even nigh useless languages like Hungarian and those obscure archaic dialects. I've met Scandinavians who spoke much better English than most Americans.

This is a simple case of wanting our citizens to be as competent as they can be. Which, of course, is good for a laugh.

My German and Irish ancestors all learned English. I personally think they should have preserved their mother-tongues too, but the point is they went through the effort to learn the language of their host country. I know some Spanish and see no reason why Americans could not learn the languages of their neighbors i.e. Spanish and French (indeed I encourage my fellow-countrymen to do so for its own sake), but the burden of learning is not on them to do so. Employers and others should not be forced to accommodate immigrants. If I moved to a foreign country, I would seize the first opportunity to learn the host language, and I would do it with pleasure.

By this logic, man must not be allowed to rule or dictate over other men at all. So this would mean no institutionalized coercion (taxation) and thus anarchy. Is this your political ideology? I believe that a nation needs language and culture to survive. Right now as it stands, Hispanics are largely alienated due to socio-economic and language reasons. Over time they may assimilate and become apart of America but this will take years, and promoting a separate identity is a death sentence.

Never mind they want to vote for big-government Obama Democrats by a considerably wide margin. It reminds me of how Ben Franklin was worried about German immigrants coming here and not understanding out anti-government ideas.

I don't see why the US can't be bilingual like Canada is.

I agree. There isn't any good reason to block the people from using Spanish in all walks of life. Time's a changing, people need to catch up.
