This sad case of a bear attack on humans is the first in the last 20 years in Armenia. Perhaps there was a fateful combination of circumstances, the tourists happened to be too close to the den of the bear with the cubs.

Of course in the wild Nature one should always observe safety precautions. In Armenia there are predatory animals - bears, wolves and even snow leopards, which can be dangerous for people. That's why, the Mountaineering Federation of Armenia recommends climbing mountain peaks accompanied by an experienced guide, preferably in large groups and along existing mountain trails.
