I'm also planning a trip to Transcaucasia in 2017. Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia: they will be respectively the 81st, 82nd, 83rd visited countries on my counter.

How much time should I dedicate to each country ?

I've read that Armenia and Georgia are the most spectacular and scenic. Azerbaijan is said to be touristically less attractive and worthy of interest.
Furthermore, Azeris are known for being less friendly and welcoming than their neighbors, although living standards are higher in Azerbaijan thanks to oil.

These countries have high mountain peaks. Is it OK to travel in winter, or are mountain roads closed due to heavy snow ? Is it better to wait until spring (blooming nature) ?

Is it a problem travelling both to Armenia AND Azerbaijan, knowing the long existing feud between these two rival countries ? (Artsakh, Nakhichevan...)

Is a visa necessary to visit these countries for a EU-citizen ?

Last question: which airline offers the best deals departing from Paris ?

As for Armenia I can say that it is OK to travel in winter, but it is a just matter of taste, if you like winter sports, skiing, etc.
Winter in Armenia is soft enough, and the roads are usually open and passable.

But in my opinion the best time to travel to Armenia is autumn, September and October, when the weather is perfect comfort, it's warm but not too hot, and there is a fantastic abundance of delicious fruits, berries and vegetables with incredible cheapness.

As for Armenia and Azerbaijan, I think that probably it will be better first visit Azerbaijan and then just go to Armenia, because at the border in Azerbaijan tourists who previously visited Armenia can get some troubles.

As far as I know, EU citizens do not need a visa to visit Armenia and stay up to 90 days.

So in short, Armenia is a country with beautiful nature, delicious food and very friendly people.

Last but not least Armenia is a very safe country, where crime practically is non-existant.
