    Default Are people inherently tribalistic?

And if yes how much do you think it affects our lives (politics, religion, culture etc.)?

If no, why do you think not?

in a way yea but their tribalism splits. As in the larger the group the more likely they are to split up into different groups. People tend to try to stick with others who share same values as them or interests/ goals

Yes, and the people that are wired for higher 'ingroup, outgroup" tendencies are more loyal. It has to do with oxytocin levels, if I recall right.

People may have a tendency to be a bit of both. It is visible that people like to expand - at first there were families, later various families built settlements, few settlements were a fundament for a tribe and unification of plenty of such tribes resulted in creating a nation. Nowadays some nations still tend to expand, here I refer to the European Union, in a quite recent past there was a Soviet Union as well. Everything seems to lead to the globalism. But on the other hand, even if people want to "expand" as I called it, they also prefer to suggest their ideas as being better. People will always feel differences from other people and will try to preserve their heritage, which eventually leads to the destabilization of a bigger group, sometimes to revolutions, sometimes to civil wars.

In shorter version, people seem to be tribalistic, as they want to keep their cultures and what they inherited from those who lived before us. But at the same time people would like to be one big tribe.

Leaning towards yes, but Max Payne has a good point. Nowadays Europeans identify as Europeans, tribes in the narrow sense dont have much importance, in other parts of the world clans, tribes are still important. For Europeans tribalism means white nationalism.

Not all of them. It's probably much more present in Western Europe than in it's Eastern equivalent.

I wouldn't say that white nationalism has anything to do with preserving own traditions and protecting the heritage.

It does though, but they see everything european from romans, to celts to vikings etc. as their own heritage, they celebrate european diversity but they try to preserve the western civilisation heritage which is built on greeco-roman foundations and christianity, and germanic and celtic cultures too etc. They do talk about a "white culture"

As the world gets smaller, one's tribe gets bigger, yes. This can be seen in the world of religion as well. Not too long ago, Protestants and Catholics hated each other's guts, but now they're more or less allied in the face of atheism and Islam.
