Well, it was kinda spooky, but not in a threatening or evil way.
I did read it and wondered about it …
My first thought was that it was not a materialization of your grandfather as such, (unless he was known for his paranormal abilities) but his ‘ghost’ utilizing a synchronistic moment to deliver a ‘message’.
But who rang the doorbell?
A ghost can – momentarily, imbue (if that is the right word) a living person with their feelings and impulses - as if to impersonate them. That is in the realm of possibility.
So, in effect – it most probably was your grandfather.
He just wanted to (like most ‘ghosts’ do) … let your mother know or assure her that there is ‘life’ (awareness) beyond death.
