I've been to NYC plenty of times. Most of it is very dirty and poor. There isn't much sight seeing there, mostly tall buildings everywhere. Stuff are very expensive there as well. Its nice to visit with friends but I would prefer many other places to NYC in terms of living there and traveling. Outside of Brooklyn, NYC is not really anything special.

I don't travel much but from what I hear Tokyo and European capitals like Madrid, Rome, Vienna, etc. are nicer.

I've been to NYC. Aside from a few posh areas, most of the city is pretty ugly. Way overrated. San Francisco is a much more attractive city as far as American cities go, and has a much more beautiful natural setting.
